Fava Beans fiber

Fava beans thrive in regions with a cold climate, displaying resilience as robust plants capable of withstanding challenging soil conditions. While traditionally cultivated as a human staple known as broad beans throughout Europe, their role in animal feed has gained prominence, particularly within the European Union’s exploration of soybean alternatives. Fava beans’ inclusion in layer diets is noteworthy, given that mature birds exhibit resilience to elevated levels of anti-nutritional factors present in fava beans. At Golden Fields, we harness the benefits of fava beans in crafting premium fiber for our animal feed products, contributing to a sustainable and nutritious approach in the alternative protein landscape.

Product Description

Fava beans (Vicia faba L) belong to the legume family; however, unlike soybeans, another legume, fava beans have a lower oil content, ranging from 1-2%, as opposed to soybean seeds, which contain approximately 20% oil. In contrast, fava beans boast a high starch content, exceeding 40%, and moderate levels of fiber, around 9%. With a crude protein concentration of 25%, fava beans offer an amino acid profile akin to soybeans, characterized by richness in lysine and lower levels of methionine. This unique profile makes fava beans an excellent complement to corn and other cereals low in lysine but high in methionine. At Golden Fields, we leverage these distinctive attributes to create high-quality fava beans fiber, contributing to the nutritional excellence of our animal feed products.
